A recording method comprising printing by rendering an ink composition comprising a colorant, resin emulsion particles, a water-soluble organic solvent and water and a reacting liquid comprising a reactant producing a coagulation upon contacting with the above ink composition to adhere to a recording medium, wherein the method comprises the steps of making the reacting liquid to adhere to the recording medium, then attaching the ink composition to the medium to thereby record an image, and washing the recording medium having the image thus printed by using the ink composition and the reacting liquid with a polar solvent. The recording method can be used for providing a good image excellent in the adhering property to a recording medium in a solidified state and the resistance to friction.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an ink jet recording method and ink set with which recorded material with excellent gloss and greatly reduced gloss unevenness can be easily obtained without higher costs being entailed, the ink jet recording apparatus having to be modified or made larger, etc., and to provide an ink jet recording method with which a high-quality image can be obtained with a low gloss ratio (maximum value/minimum value) dependent on duty, as well as recorded material produced by this method. The present invention provides an ink jet recording method, in which a pigment ink composition and a clear ink composition containing a resin component are discharged to record information on a recording medium, wherein the discharge amount of the pigment ink composition and/or the discharge amount of the clear ink composition is adjusted so that the gloss will be substantially uniform over the entire recording surface of the recording medium after recording.

An ink composition which can give a print excellent in marring resistance and scratch resistance. It comprises an alkali-soluble copolymer, water, a colorant, and at least one member selected from the group consisting of a wax, viscosity modifier, and wetting agent, wherein the alkali-soluble copolymer is a copolymer having an acid value of 40 or lower obtained by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer with other monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of either a water-soluble polymer having an alcoholic hydroxy group or a copolymerizable surfactant, and the pH of the composition has been regulated with an inorganic base so as to impart solubility in water. With the ink composition, a print excellent in marring resistance and scratch resistance can be obtained.

Yellow, magenta and cyan ink compositions to be used in color ink-jet recording and a solvent system suitable for color ink compositions to be used in color ink-jet recording. These compositions reproduce ideal color tones irrespective of paper qualities and are excellent in intermittent delivery stability. Also disclosed is a color ink jet recording method using these compositions, wherein printing is performed by applying them one on another to mix various colors. The resultant color, too, has an ideal tone.
