An ink set for ink-jet recording with which a high-quality image can be obtained; a process for producing the ink set; a method of image recording by which a high-quality image can be obtained; and a print of high image quality. The ink set comprises a combination of two or more ink compositions each comprising a colorant, a water-soluble organic solvent, and water and is characterized in that each of the ink compositions satisfies a specific requirement concerning flow properties or dynamic viscoelastic properties at 20°C. The method of image recording is characterized in that either the ink set or an ink set for ink-jet recording obtained by the process is used to form an image. The print is characterized by bearing an image formed with either of those ink sets.

Provided are an ink jet recording ink (IJ ink), an ink jet recording ink set (IJ ink set) and a recording method, having excellent dispersion stability and ejection stability and being capable of providing images which is free from bleeding and which is excellent in color development property and rubbing resistance. An IJ ink and an IJ ink set having long-term storage stability are provided. Also provided are recorded matter having excellent color development property and rubbing resistance, and an ink jet recording apparatus capable of providing the same. A recording method comprising printing by rendering an ink composition comprising a colorant, resin emulsion particles, a water-soluble organic solvent and water and a reacting liquid comprising a reactant producing a coagulation upon contacting with the above ink composition to adhere to a recording medium, wherein the method comprises the steps of making the reacting liquid to adhere to the recording medium, then attaching the ink composition to the medium to thereby record an image, and washing the recording medium having the image thus printed by using the ink composition and the reacting liquid with a polar solvent. The recording method can be used for providing a good image excellent in the adhering property to a recording medium in a solidified state and the resistance to friction.

The ink composition comprises a color material, a polymer having a moiety which has ultra-violet rays absorbing activity and/or light stability imparting activity, water and a water-soluble organic solvent, wherein the color material is contained in the polymer. The ink composition has two preferred embodiments. In a first embodiment, the ink composition contains the color material as a dispersing agent. In a second embodiment, the polymer is present in the form of particles containing the color material. And, the ink composition comprises a dye or a pigment and a polymer having a moiety which has ultra-violet rays absorbing activity and/or light stability imparting activity, wherein the color material is contained in the polymer, and is present in the form of particles.

An ink-jet recording method by which a satisfactory image satisfactory in light resistance, water resistance, marring resistance, and gloss can be obtained on a recording medium; and a reactive fluid and an ink composition both for use in the method. The reactive fluid is applied after printing with the ink composition to form a coating film, whereby the resultant print can have improved water resistance, marring resistance, and gloss. By incorporating a cationic emulsion containing an ingredient capable of absorbing ultraviolet and/or enhancing light stability into the reactive fluid, the print can have improved light resistance.
