A method for manufacturing the reflective substrate includes the steps of: forming a plurality of convex portions (14a, 14b) with two or more different heights in a region where the electrode (19) is provided; forming a polymer resin film (15), which has an upper surface in a continuous wave shape without any flat portions, on the substrate (11) with the convex portions (14a, 14b); and forming the electrode (19) made of a material having an optical reflecting function on the polymer resin film (15) so that the electrode (19) has a continuous wave shape. A liquid crystal display device using the reflective substrate (20) is provided, which includes: a reflective substrate (20) in which an electrode (19) made of a material having an optical reflecting function is provided on an insulating base substrate (11), and an upper surface of the electrode (19) has a continuous wave shape; a second substrate (30) provided opposing the reflective substrate (20); and a liquid crystal layer (35) sealed between the reflective substrate (20) and the second substrate (30).

In a liquid crystal display device which displays multiple colors, a light modulation portion (3) containing a liquid crystal or a mixture of liquid crystals is sandwiched between a pair of transparent substrates (2a, 2b) each having transparent electrodes (1a, 1b) in a striped pattern on an inner surface of each transparent substrate. The electrodes (1b) on one transparent substrate (2b) perpendicularly intersect those (1a) on the other transparent substrate (2a). The light modulation portion (3) includes a plurality of mutually adjacent regions (3a, 3b, 3c) of three different kinds which form a single light modulation layer parallel to the transparent substrates (2a, 2b). Regions (3a) of one kind contain dichroic pigment for displaying a red color, regions (3b) of another kind contain dichroic pigment for displaying a green color, and regions (3c) of the other kind contain dichroic pigment for displaying a blue color, as well as the liquid crystal or the mixture of liquid crystals. This liquid crystal display device can display bright, vivid colors because it is not necessary to provide color filters, and is therefore suitable for use in reflective color displays.

In a color liquid-crystal display apparatus using mosaic arrangements, the same color of picture elements which are driven by the same signal electrode are alternately arranged right and left. Accordingly, all the necessary thing is that the same color of picture signal is applied upon the same signal electrode in spite of the mosaic arrangement. Thus, a circuit is rendered unnecessary which switches a color image signal of an analog line memory, so that the driving circuit is extremely simplified.

The present invention relates to picture elements of a color liquid-crystal display apparatus, color arrangements of coloring means, and the electric control. The arrangement patterns of picture-element electrodes are provided which may be driven by a simple driving circuit and may obtain the regenerative images of high quality. In the color liquid-crystal display apparatus, the delta arrangement is adopted, thus improving the image resolution and the display quality.
