The invention relates to a self-reversible reverse latex that includes: 50% to 70% of a cross-linked polyelectrolyte that is obtained by means of polymerization of a monomer of formula (I), with R1 being 8 to 20 carbon atoms and 1 ≤ n ≤ 30 for a neutral monomer, and a monomer comprising an acid function; 4% to 10% of a water-in-oil emulsifier; 1% to 10% of an oil-in water emulsifier including a nonzero mass ratio of a surface-active composition (C) that, for 100 mol%, contains ≥ 10% to ≤ 50% of a composition (C II ) including, for 100%, 60% to 100% of a composition of formula (II), with R2 being an alkyl having 12 carbon atoms, T 1 , T 2 , and T 3 being H or a (-CH 2 -CH 2 -0-) mi -H radical, and mi ≥ 0 and ≤ 10 with ∑mi > 0 and ≤ 10; ≥ 50% to ≤ 90% of a composition (C III ) including, for 100%, 60% to 100% of a compound of formula (III) or mixtures of (III) and (IV), with R2 being an alkyl having 12 carbon atoms, T 4 , T 5 , T 6 , and T 7 being H or (-CH 2 -CH 2 -0-) mi -H, and mi ≥ 0 and ≤ 10 with ∑mi > 0 and ≤ 10; 15% to 45% oil; and 0% to 5% water. The invention relates to a branched or crosslinked anionic polyelectrolyte of at least one monomer having a partially- or totally-salified strong acid function, with at least one neutral monomer and at least one monomer having formula (I), wherein: R represents a linear or branched alkyl radical comprising between 8 and twenty carbon atoms, and n represents a number greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to twenty. The invention also relates to the use thereof as a thickener in topical compositions.
