The small size cassette receiving portion is smaller in diameter and disposed at a higher position than the large size cassette receiving portion. The diameter of a lower end of a reel spindle engaging hole (39) provided in each reel hub (36) of the small tape cassette is smaller than the outer diameter of the small size cassette receiving portion of the reel spindle. The reel spindle engaging hole (16) of the large size tape cassette has, at a lower end portion thereof, an escape portion which is greater in diameter than the outer diameter of the small size cassette receiving portion of the reel spindle but smaller than the outer diameter of the large size cassette receiving portion and such escape portion is higher than the height of the small size tape receiving portion.

A lid is pivotally mounted on the casing (2) for movements between a closed position extending across the opening facing forwardly from the recess (7) and a raised opened position uncovering the forwardly facing opening, and a tape (5) is wound about reels (6) rotatable in the casing (2) and extends between the reels (6) in a path including a run extending across the forwardly facing opening so as to be disposed in back of the lid in its closed position. A shutter (20) includes a lateral portion extending across the undersurface (4a) of the bottom wall (4A) and being slidable relative to the slide surface portion (40) between a closed position in which the shutter (20) closes the opening facing downwardly from the recess (7) and a rearwardly displaced opened position uncovering such opening. The lateral portion (21) of the shutter (20) is dimensioned to be contained within the recessed slide surface portion (40) in at least the opened position of the shutter (20) so as to avoid any interference with access to the cassette height determining portions (41a, 41b) of the undersurface.

摘要： A cassette (1) having a recording medium contained therein for use with a recording/reproducing apparatus. The cassette (1) includes a storage device for storing information pertaining to the recording medium and/or the cassette (1); a plurality of terminals (42) coupled to the storage device and adapted to be coupled to the recording/reproducing apparatus when the cassette (1) is being used therewith so as to transfer the stored information to the recording/reproducing apparatus; and an accidental-erasure prevention switch member (43) located in close proximity to the terminals (42) for inhibiting recording of an information signal onto the recording medium and inhibiting erasing of a previously recorded information signal from the recording medium. At least one hole (6) and a window (7) are provided in the cassette so as to provide access to the terminals (42) and the accidental-erasure prevention switch member (43). Such at least one hole (6) and window (7) may be arranged so as to provide a relatively large area (8) for fastening a label. The recording/reproducing apparatus includes a connector which is coupled to the terminals (42) when the cassette (1) is inserted and mounted in the recording/reproducing apparatus and adapted to receive the information from the storage device.

摘要： The present invention provides a recording medium cassette (1) capable of being optionally provided with additional identifiers and of being easily miniaturized if necessary and having satisfactory appearance, and a recording and/or reproducing apparatus (41), such as a VTR, designed to use the same recording medium cassette (1). The recording medium cassette (1) is provided with a printed wiring board (17) having a plurality of information indicating contacts (18) and fixed to the bottom wall (8) of the case (2) of the recording medium cassette (1) so that the information indicating contacts (18) are accessible from outside through slots (16) formed in the bottom wall (8). The recording and/or reproducing apparatus (41) is provided with a plurality of information detecting contacts (56) respectively corresponding to the information indicating contacts (18) of the recording medium cassette. A supply voltage is applied through one of the information detecting contacts (56) to the corresponding information indicating contact. The rest of the information indicating contacts (18) are connected to or isolated from the information indicating contact to which the supply voltage is applied so as to indicate logical "0" or logical "1" to represent information by a binary code signal, which is detected through the information detecting contacts (56).
Further, a VTR (41) designed to use both a small-sized tape cassette (1) having a mouth (13) and a printed wiring board (17) provided with a plurality of information indicating contacts (18), and a large-sized tape cassette (20) having a mouth (25), which is to be positioned at a position where the mouth (13) of the small-sized tape cassette (1) is to be positioned, and a printed wiring board (34) provided with a plurality of information indicating contacts (35), which are to be positioned at positions where the corresponding information indicating contacts (18) of the small-sized tape cassette (1) are to be positioned i.e., recording medium cassettes, is provided with an information detecting system of a simple configuration for detecting information indicated by the information indicating contacts (18, 35) about the status of the tape cassette (1; 20) inserted therein. The printed wiring board (17; 34) is fixed to one of the walls (8; 27) of the case (2; 21) of the tape cassette (2; 21) so that the information indicating contacts (18; 35) are accessible from outside through contact slots (16; 33) formed in the wall (8; 27) of the case (2; 21). The VTR (41) is provided with a connector (45) provided with elastic information detecting contacts (56) which come into elastic contact with the information indicating contacts (18; 35), respectively, when the tape cassette (1; 20) is inserted into the VTR (41).
