The invention concerns a method for controlling the robustness of a particulate filter for use on a Diesel engine exhaust line, including the following steps which consist, after previously determining the threshold weight of soot of said filter, in loading a new filter with a soot level not less than twice and not more than three times said threshold weight of soot, then, in any order, determining the efficacy of said filter, measuring its pressure loss and comparing same to the pressure loss of the new filter, measuring its cracking level, and finally controlling its integrity after mechanical biasing. The invention relates to a method for selecting a structure, which is used for filtering a particle-charged gas, is made of a porous ceramic material and which is provided with at least one, preferably a plurality of porous walls, wherein the inventive method consists in processing, according to a first wall surface image, said first image comprising a morphological erosion produced by a structuring element in such a way that a second image characterising the uniformity and homogeneity of said wall microstructure is obtained. The silicon carbide filtering structure obtainable by means of the inventive method is also disclosed.

The invention relates to a honeycomb-type structure for the filtration of gas loaded with particles, characterised in that the material based on silicium carbide constituting the walls of the structure has an open porosity of between 30 and 53 %, a median pore diameter of between 9 and 20 µm, an average number of open pores on the surface of the walls, having an equivalent opening surface of between 20 and 310 µm2, which is higher than 300/mm2 of wall, and a ratio between the total opening surface of said open pores and the surface of the walls which is between 15 and 30 %. The invention also relates to a method for obtaining said structure.
