In order to achieve reproducible welding results, in particular reproducible geometry, tensile strength and peel strength of the node (146), the at least one first stranded wire is laid in the compression chamber and the individual wires are then welded into a partial node (146), the width (B) of the compression chamber being adjusted such that the partial node (146) completely covers the bottom of the compression chamber delimited by the sonotrode (116) or by part thereof, then the compression chamber is opened, the at least one second stranded wire (148) is laid in the compression chamber on the partial node (146), and after the compression chamber is closed, the at least one second stranded wire (148) is welded to the partial node (146), the width of the compression chamber being equal to width B.
