An optical disk of the present invention includes a transparent dielectric film formed on a light incident side of the disk on an opposite side of an optical recording film so as to sandwich the transparent substrate therebetween, for suppressing bimetallic effects caused by a difference in thermal expansion between an optical recording film formed on an optical recording surface and the transparent substrate, whereby changes in tilt against temperature changes can be suppressed. Further, by an optimal selection of a reflectance of the transparent dielectric film, unwanted reflection due to multi-interference can be reduced at the same time.

The auxiliary recording layer is in an in-plane magnetization state at temperatures lower than a recording temperature, and in a perpendicular magnetization state at temperatures not lower than the recording temperature. It is therefore possible to achieve a decrease in a recording magnetic field.

A magneto-optical recording/reproducing device which records information by irradiating a light beam (1) of constant intensity on a magneto-optical recording medium while simultaneously applying a magnetic field thereon through a recording magnetic head (5); and which reproduces the recorded information through a reproducing magnetic head (7). The magneto-optical recording medium has a magnetic film (4) formed on a translucent substrate (3) and the magnetic field applied through the recording magnetic head (5) reverses in response to the information to be recorded. The recording magnetic head (5) and the reproducing magnetic head (7) are integrally provided on a single magnetic core (10) in order to set their positions easily with respect to each other. By making a magnetic core end-face (12) of the reproducing magnetic head smaller than a light beam spot (14), information recorded on areas smaller than the light beam spot can be reproduced. A large reproduced output may be achieved by using a magneto-optical recording medium which has a soft magnetic material layer made of soft magnetic material provided between the substrate and the magnetic film.

A method of manufacturing an optical disk includes using a master disk produced from a pattern formed by projecting two light spots onto photosensitive material so that areas of said photosensitive material exposed to a first light spot form a pattern of spiral or concentric grooves and areas of said photosensitive material exposed to a second light spot form a predetermined pit pattern in land portions. The optical disk includes concentric or spiral grooves, a first series of pits formed in the interrupted portions and a second series of pits formed in portion of lands. Both of the first and second series of pits represent address information. The portions of the lands and the interrupted portions of the grooves are located in different radial directions. With this arrangement, even when the optical disk has a reduced track pitch, accurate address information is obtained, achieving a high-density recording optical disk.
