摘要： Method and apparatus for capturing and saving recently dialed telephone numbers and for redialing automatically a telephone number from among the most recently dialed telephone numbers. Embodiments of the present invention: (a) capture an outgoing telephone number when it is dialed by a caller (100, 130); (b) enter the telephone number (130) into a database (140) comprised of the last N telephone numbers that were dialed, where N is a predetermined number of telephone numbers, while eliminating duplicative entries for a particular telephone number; (c) display the telephone numbers (120, 130) in the directory in response to caller input (115, 125); and (d) cause a telephone number in the directory to be redialed in response to caller input (115, 130, 110).

Specifically, the inventive apparatus includes: (a) function keypads (115) which identify the input as to last name or first name; (b) numeric keypads (110) for receiving input related to either the first name or the last name; (c) means for grouping input information which relates to the first name and to the last name; (d) means for searching the database by means of the portions of the first and last name and identifying the part of the database which matches the portions thereof; and (e) means for displaying (120) the identified part of the database.
