摘要: An inverter having extended lifetime DC-link capacitors for use with a DC power source such as a photovoltaic panel is described. The inverter uses a plurality of switchable capacitors to control the voltage across the capacitors. The expected lifetime of the capacitors can be extended by disconnecting unnecessary capacitors from a voltage. The capacitors may be periodically connected to a voltage in order to maintain an oxide dielectric layer of the capacitor.

摘要: A first switch for connection in a first circuit path between a PV panel string and an inverter in a power system, and a second switch for connection in a second circuit path across an output of the PV panel string, are normally closed and open, respectively, during non-fault operation of the power system. Both series and parallel arc faults in the power system can be extinguished by further control of the switches. Arc fault detection could be based on probabilistic frequency analysis of current or power flow measurements in the PV panel string, current or power imbalance, interruption in communications with the PV panels, or combinations of these techniques.

摘要: Self forming microgrids are disclosed. An electrical microgrid includes multiple power domains and power cables coupling the power domains together. Each power domain includes an intelligent distribution panel, and the power domains are coupled to the power cables through the intelligent distribution panels. An intelligent distribution panel includes sockets, an internal power bus coupled to the sockets, and a controller. The sockets enable connection of the intelligent distribution panel to one or more components within a power domain and to one or more other power domains through respective power connections. Power connections between power domains are through power cables coupled to the sockets. The controller is also coupled to the sockets, to control connectivity of the one or more components and the respective power connections with the internal power bus.

摘要: Power generating component connectivity testing methods and apparatus are disclosed. At a power generating component, a connectivity testing condition is detected. A connectivity testing procedure is performed on detection of the connectivity testing condition, to test connectivity in a system that includes the power generating component and an unpowered electrical system. Connectivity is tested before the electrical system is connected to a power grid. An indication of connectivity can be provided by receiving connectivity information indicating connectivity between power generating components and the unpowered electrical system; and providing a representation of the connectivity between the power generating components and the electrical system. This representation could include, for example, one or more of: a connectivity alert, a visual representation of the power generating components; and a visual representation of the electrical system.
