摘要： A receiver driven approach for playback of remote content is described. One embodiment includes obtaining information concerning the content of the media file from the remote server, identifying a starting location within the media sequence, identifying byte ranges of the media file corresponding to media required to play the media sequence from the starting location, requesting the byte ranges required to play the media sequence from the starting location, buffering received bytes of information pending commencement of playback, playing back the buffered bytes of information, receiving a user instruction, identifying byte ranges of the media file corresponding to media required to play the media sequence in accordance with the user instruction, flushing previous byte range requests, and requesting the byte ranges required to play the media in accordance with the user instruction.

摘要： A method of playing back content by a playback device is provided. The playback device downloads a portion of a media file, which has content data including encoded video frames and a plurality of headers. In at least one of the headers an extension flag indicates whether additional flags are included in the header; these additional flags comprise a frame metadata flag that indicates the presence of frame metadata within the data fields of the header. A frame of encoded video is decoded, by decoding the at least one headers to identify the flags, the additional flags, and the content of the data fields and decoding the frame of encoded video based upon a set of pre-defined presentation rules that define the behavior of the playback device based upon the frame metadata, enabling the playback device to display the frame thus decoded on a display.
