The present invention provides: a koi herpes virus-specific antigenic peptide that reacts with an anti-koi herpes virus antibody but does not react with an anti-cyprinid herpes virus-1. antibody; an anti-koi herpes virus-specific antibody that is specific for koi herpes virus and does not exhibit cross-reactivity with cyprinid herpes virus-1; and a test or detection kit using the koi herpes virus-specific antigen or the anti-koi herpes virus-specific antibody. A region useful as the major antigen of koi herpes virus (KHV) was found from the koi herpes virus genomic DNA. Moreover, it was confirmed that an antibody directed against this region as an antigen has high detection sensitivity for koi herpes virus (KHV) without exhibiting cross-reactivity with cyprinid herpes virus-1 (CHV).
