A tyre air-pressure abnormality alarm device for informing decrease in air-pressure of tyres attached to a four-wheeled vehicle, characterised in that the device prohibits start of initialising operations for updating stored values for physical amounts related to tyres or wheels in the case where air-pressures of the tyres are judged to be normal, if air-pressure abnormality of a tyre is being alarmed. Initialisation is accepted only after the internal pressure has become normal, whereby erroneous initialisation with any tyre being in a decompressed condition can be prevented. Thus, normal operations for detecting decompression of a tyre can be maintained.

An apparatus for identifying between summer tyres and winter tyres based on rotational information obtained from tyres attached to a four-wheeled vehicle equipped with a limited slip differential device (7). The apparatus comprises a rotational information detecting means (1) for detecting rotational information for each of the tyres, a memory means for storing rotational information of each of the tyres, an arithmetic processing means for respectively calculating reciprocals of rolling radii based on rotations information of tyres attached to a driving shaft (5) as well as judged value based on rotational information of each of the tyres, and an identification means for identifying whether the tyres attached to the driving shaft are summer tyres or winter tyres from a relationship between reciprocals of turning radii and the judged value.

A tyre identifying method comprising measuring the rotational speed of each of the four tyres fitted to the wheels of a vehicle; calculating a ratio of front wheel rotation speed to rear wheel rotation speed from the measured value; and identifying the kind of tyre fitted by comparing the calculated front-rear wheel ratio with a function of speed and front-rear wheel ratio prepared on the basis of data from, the tyre whose kind is previously known. Utilisation can be made of the means for measuring the rotation of tyre such as ABS which is equipped on the vehicle control device, thus requiring small initial cost.

A relative speed ratio of driving wheels at the time of actual running is corrected based on a preliminarily relationship between the relative speed ratio of right (W 2 ,W 4 ) and left (W 1 ,W 3 ) tyres of different types of driving wheels and driving force, and decrease in internal pressure of a tyre is determined. The accuracy for determining decrease in internal pressure of a tyre can be improved and erroneous alarm or failure in alarm can be prevented.
