摘要： A remote sensor device comprises at least one sensor that produces an output signal indicative of the value of a measure, and a reflective display that is positioned such that it is visible along a line of sight from a remote location, the reflective display comprising at least two retro-reflective assemblies, each of which is arranged to reflect a variable fraction of radiation incident upon the reflective assembly back towards a source in response to respective control signals applied to the reflector assemblies. Each of the reflector assemblies preferentially reflects one wavelength of the incident radiation or preferentially removes at least one wavelength of the incident radiation that is not preferentially reflected or removed by the other reflector assembly. The device further comprises modulating means for modulating the control signals applied to the reflector assemblies as a function of the value of the output signal from the sensor so as to modulate the fractions of incident light reflected by the display.

摘要： A capacitance sensing apparatus for use in a position sensing apparatus, comprising a first set of electrodes (5) and a second set of electrodes (6) and a capacitance sensing circuit (7) arranged to determine, in use in a normal operating mode, the capacitance between each pairing of electrodes comprising one from the first set and one from the second set, in which the apparatus is further provided with at least one group switch (11a, 11b, 14a, 14b) arranged to selectively electrically connect together groups of the electrodes within the sets of electrodes, in which, in use in a low resolution mode of the apparatus the or each group switch connects together the groups of electrodes and the capacitance sensing circuit is arranged to determine the capacitance between the each pairing of groups of electrodes in one set and the electrodes or groups of electrodes of the other set. Typically, the apparatus is used in conjunction with a display (2) to form a touch-sensitive display. It may be used in a position sensing apparatus for determining the proximity and position of an object to the apparatus, and is particularly applicable to use in a console (20) of a motor vehicle of the type having the console (20) centrally between two passenger seats (21, 22).

摘要： A rain detection apparatus and method, comprising a camera (10) adapted to view a surface (16) and a processor (12) adapted to capture at least one image from the camera (10), in which the processor (12) is further adapted to generate at least one signal indicative of the presence of rain on the surface from information contained in the at least one captured image and to, optionally drive surface cleaning apparatus in response thereto, in which the apparatus is adapted to capture images focussed at a plurality of distances; in which the processor includes edge detection means adapted to detect edges visible in the at least one captured image and difference means adapted to calculate the difference between the number of edges visible between differing images; and in which the edge detection means is further adapted to disregard edges close to areas of light larger than the largest raindrop that is desired or expected to be detected.

摘要： An apparatus (100) for measuring the viscosity and temperature of a fluid, for example an engine oil, comprises a transducer (110), which is arranged to vibrate when provided with a drive signal to produce an ultrasonic shear wave; an impedance matching layer (120) that is inserted into the fluid and which couples at least a portion of the ultrasonic waves produced by the transducer into the fluid and from which at least a portion of the wave is reflected back to the transducer (110); a detector (110) which is adapted to detect a measurement signal produced by the transducer when the reflected wave is incident upon the transducer; a control circuit which varies the frequency of the drive signal applied to the transducer and hence the frequency of the ultrasound signal; a processing means which determines the optimum frequency of the drive signal at which the measurement signal output from the transducer has its minimum amplitude; and a temperature determining means which estimates the temperature of the fluid as a function of the optimum frequency.
