More specifically, the present disclosure relates to a technique of managing and storing multiple utility consumer profiles, each of the profiles being identifiable by a unique personal identifier of the respective utility consumer, in order to associate data from one or more utility meters to one of the profiles and to store the associated data. A corresponding data collection device, utility meter system and method of data collection in a utility meter system are provided. The method comprises managing multiple utility consumer profiles, receiving data from one of a plurality of utility meters, associating the received data to one of the profiles, and storing the associated data in a memory.
