The present invention relates to fluorinated polyphenylenes which have at least four benzene nuclei in the polymer chain and contains at least one unsubstituted benzene nucleus. Such polymers may be produced by condensation of fluorinated benzenes with lithiated benzenes. The polymers may be used as conducting polymers, photoconductors, high temperature engineering polymers, solid lubricants, heat and light stabilizers, oxidation inhibitors and precursors for graphite type fibres.
