    摘要: The objective of video compression is to reduce the redundancy of the temporal and spatial dimension. Skipping of MBs or blocks plays a key role when reducing the codec complexity and data rate. A method for determining a threshold for deciding whether motion estimation, DCT and quantization may be skipped on macroblock level, comprises determining a quantization parameter, quantizing and inverse quantizing (λ1) a picture (f x,cur ) on macroblock level, wherein a reconstructed picture (f x,rec ) is obtained, calculating a difference (SAD) between the picture (f x,cur ) and the reconstructed picture (f x,rec ), calculating the mean (m SAD ) and standard deviation (σ SAD ) of differences between the current and reconstructed picture, calculating a threshold (SAD Threshold,Qp ) using the mean (m SAD ) and standard deviation (σ SAD ) to determine a statistical confidence interval, and storing the threshold value (SAD Threshold,QP ) associated with the quantization parameter.
