Abstract: In a thin-film transistor array formed on an insulating substrate, the thin-film transistor array comprises a plurality of pixels each including a thin-film transistor, a pixel electrode, and a capacitor electrode; the plurality of pixels are arranged in a matrix, being located at positions where a plurality of column wirings extending in a column direction intersect a plurality of row wirings perpendicular to the column wirings and extending in a row direction; the pixel electrode is configured by two electrically conductive layers which are a lower layer electrode serving as a lower pixel electrode, and an upper layer electrode serving as an upper pixel electrode; an intermediate insulating film is sandwiched between the lower pixel electrode and the upper pixel electrode; the upper pixel electrode is connected to the lower pixel electrode through an opening of the intermediate insulating film; capacitance is configured by an overlap between the capacitor electrode and the lower pixel electrode; and providing no overlap with the capacitor electrode and the lower pixel electrode, but providing an overlap with the upper pixel electrode, in the lamination direction.

Abstract: There is provided a display device using an electrophoretic display panel that includes three types of particles. The display device displays a clear image that a viewer can easily see or an image intended by the creator of the image. The display device includes a pair of substrates, a display medium having a memory effect and disposed between the substrates, and a drive unit that applies a drive voltage to the display medium. The display medium contains first, second and third particles respectively having first, second and third colors. These colors are respectively displayed with application of a first voltage, a second voltage having a polarity different from that of the first voltage, and a third voltage having the same polarity as that of the first voltage and an absolute value smaller than that of the first voltage. When rewriting a displayed first image to a second image, a first display step, and subsequently a second display step are performed, the first display step being temporarily displaying the second image, the second display step being changing the color of only third color portions in the second image and then restoring the third color, while first color portions and second color portions remain as they are.
