    摘要: A gas detector comprises a laser transmitter (10), a laser receiver (16), and a gas reference cell (26) formed of a sealed encircling wall defining an interior volume. A liquid partially fills the gas reference cell, and a reference gas dissolved in the liquid forms a vapor within the interior volume. At least a portion of the sealed encircling wall is transparent to electromagnetic radiation emitted by the laser transmitter to permit electromagnetic radiation to enter the gas reference cell, traverse a path through the vapor and exit the gas reference cell. The laser transmitter, laser receiver and gas reference cell are coupled together with light guiding elements to form light paths that pass from the laser transmitter to the laser receiver through the gas reference cell and from the laser transmitter to the laser receiver through a target zone. A method of detecting a target gas comprises the steps of directing laser light from the laser transmitter to the laser receiver through a target zone and through the gas reference cell containing a sample of the target gas; detecting light from the laser transmitter that has passed through the target zone and light from the laser transmitter that has passed through the gas reference cell; and analyzing the detected light for the presence of the target gas in the target zone.

    摘要: A carbon dioxide slab laser (1) includes a pair of cooled metal electrodes (2, 3) disposed to form a gap (6) of less than about 3 millimeters. The electrode surfaces (4, 5) on either side of the gap (6) are polished and highly reflectant. A radio frequency discharge is provided between the electrodes (2, 3) to pass through gas disposed in the gap (6) which is suitable for laser action. Cooling of the gases between the electrodes (2, 3) is achieved by conduction to the metal surfaces of the electrodes (2, 3). Contrary to conventional flowing gas lasers, the two electrodes (2, 3) both reflect and guide the laser light and serve to cool the gas by conduction.
