Buckling causes the leaf to yield to one side, into one of two stable terminal states. The areas of the spring adopt different lateral positions in the stable terminal positions. The driving elements (118, 119) act on the free end of the leaf and cause the leaf to switch to the second stable terminal state as a result of the inclination of the free end (104).
