摘要： A method of dissolving nuclear material (14) from a relatively long length (10) cut from a nuclear fuel cartridge and having a liquid permeable passageway (16) extending from one end to the other end of the cut length (10). The method comprises holding the cut length (10) upright in a dissolvent (50) for the nuclear material (14) in the cut length (10), so that gas generated by the dissolvent (50) in reacting with the nuclear material (14) produces an effect analogous to that of an air lift pump and circulates the dissolvent (50) through the passageway (16).

摘要： An apparatus for transporting discrete objects, or for transporting objects whilst subjecting them to a liquid treatment, includes a V-shaped duct (14) with a curved base portion (17) into which the objects are fed. A pulse limb (24) is connected to the side of the base portion (17) by a pulse duct (20), and enables the liquid level in the V-shaped duct to be gradually lowered, and then rapidly raised again, so displacing objects through a discharge duct (15) out of the V-shaped duct. The pulse duct is arranged such that liquid flowing into the V-shaped duct swirls around the circumference of the base portion (17).

A continuous liquid permeable passageway (18) extends from one end of the nuclear material (20, 22, 24) to the other, and an annular end member (26, 36) is disposed at each end of the nuclear material (20,22,24).
