摘要:
A coil for a magnetic resonance imaging device consists of multiple coil elements arranged about an imaging space. Each coil element comprise radiating structures oriented at an angle to a tangent of the imaging space. Angling the radiating structures reduces mutual coupling between coil elements and enhances the penetration of the radio frequency field to the imaging space.

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) phased array head coil (10) comprises an array of coils (1, 2, 3, 4) a decoupling circuit (7) and a decoupling base (14). Counter wound inductors from adjoining coils (1, 2, 3, 4) in the decoupling circuit (7) are interlaced to achieve mutual decoupling between adjoining coils. Each separate coil (1, 2, 3, 4) includes a pair of spaced parallel main conductors (12) located on opposite sides of a cylindrical space (5) enclosed by the coils (1, 2, 3, 4). The decoupling base (14) comprises two meandering conductor bases (8, 9) which are interlaced. Orthogonal main conductors (12) of the coil (1, 2, 3, 4) share a common conductor base (8, 9). The multiple crossings of the paths of the conductor bases (8, 9) reduces mutual coupling effects.

A sample holder (10) for use with an NMR probe comprises a contoured element (11) in which a small animal or other sample is placed. The sample is fixed longitudinally and rotationally relative to the contoured element (11) by fixing means comprising a transverse bar (20) and callipers (24, 25), both of which can be adjusted from outside the sample holder. Anaesthetic gases are delivered by tube (17) while waste vapours are extracted by suction. The axial position of the sample holder relative to its associated probe resonator is adjustable via a knob (44) on the exterior of the resonator.
