The disclosed invention relates to a miniplant with a distillation process for separating two or more components having different volatilities from a liquid mixture containing the components. The process employs microchannel technology for effecting the distillation and is particularly suitable for conducting difficult separations, such as the separation of ethane from ethylene, wherein the individual components are characterized by having volatilities that are very close to one another. The process involves a microchannel distillation assembly which comprises at least one microchannel distillation unit with a height of up to about 3 meters, whereby the microchannel distillation unit comprises a plurality of microchannel distillation sections each having a height of up to 1000 mm. The process further involves to treat the distillate product which is formed in a first microchannel distillation unit, in another microchannel distillation unit and to treat the bottoms product which formed in the first microchannel distillation unit, in another microchannel distillation unit.
