The invention relates to an edible material in the form of a slab or film which can be used instead of back fat slabs as covering or coating material for meat and meat products. This material generally contains 10-50% animal or vegetable fat, 35-70% milk and/or water, 5-30% animal protein, 0-25% binders and/or thickeners and 0-5% salt. The proposed material can be produced by preparing a paste from the said ingredients at increased temperature, subsequently subjecting the paste to shaping and cooling the shaped paste.
