Disclosed is a method for the recovery of commercial slaughter waste streams for use in the manufacture of commercial pet food products, wherein; waste materials are collected following the commercial slaughter of animals selected from the group consisting of bovine mammals, ovine mammals, porcine mammals, poultry and fish; the greater part of those materials are size-reduced as necessary; then heated; whereupon the proteinaceous fraction, lipidaceous fraction and aqueous fraction are substantially separated from one another; and wherein each of the proteinaceous fraction, lipidaceous fraction and aqueous fraction are subsequently used in the production of commercial pet foods or components thereof.

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a method for simultaneously producing: natural muscle protein having very low fat and cholesterol content; stabilized myoglobin pigment; broth with superior gelling, emulsifying and film forming properties; high quality animal fat; and bone meal with consistent calcium and phosphate content. The above products are produced from comminuted animal carcass by-products which are divided into a solid-phase fraction and a solution-phase fraction. The broth, fat and bone meal products are prepared from the solid-phase fraction, and the protein and pigment products are prepared from the solution-phase fraction.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Lebensmittels aus Knochen mit ggf. anhaftenden Fleischresten, insbesondere zur Verwertung von Knochen mit Restfleisch, sowie ein nach diesem Verfahren hergestelltes Lebensmittel. Das Verfahren sieht vor, dass die Knochen, mittels einer Presse zu Pressgut komprimiert werden. Dabei wird das Ausgangsvolumen der Knochen um Eindrittel bis Zweidrittel im gepressten Zustand verringert. Anschließend wird das Pressgut zu Gefriergut schockgefrostet und zu Würfeln, mit einer Kantenlänge zwischen 2 und 5 cm, zerkleinert. Das so erhaltene Lebensmittel kann zur Bereitung von Soßen oder Suppen verwendet werden.

A process for purifying blood plasma to reduce the amounts of odorous and colored substances according to the invention comprises conducting at least one of the treating processes of (1) treating the plasma with an acidic or basic substance to modify and remove hemoglobin, (2) treating it with active carbon under acidic conditions, (3) adding thereto a polyelectrolyte having carboxyl groups together with, if necessary, active carbon, and treating with an acid and (4) filtering through a ceramic filter. The blood plasma thus obtained is useful as an additive for food.

The invention provides improved methods using trehalose for preparing and cooking meat. More particularly, it provides for the addition of trehalose to uncooked meat to obtain decreased shrinkage during cooking. In addition, it provides for the addition of trehalose to increase the meat's liquid retention during cooking. Specific benefits include the ability to increase the meat's water retention and fat retention during cooking. The invention provides certain levels of trehalose concentration. It also provides certain combinations of trehalose, salt, and sodium phosphate. Furthermore, it provides for trehalose usage without the addition of starch.

A milk or other dairy product, capable of minimising the onset of disease such as coronary heart disease or enhancing the immune response is derived from animals which are substantially free of the beta -casein A allele. Bulk milk can be produced by testing for and culling cows who test positive for the beta -casein A allele, or by producing immunoglobulins and other immune response proteins, in cow's milk from animals not possessing the beta -casein A allele, or other commercial milk pruducing animals, to this allele, to counteract the immunosuppressant substances present that are produced from it, in commercial milking cows such as Holsteins, together with its blending with non-treated milk or the recovery of such immunoproteins.
