The tool receiving portion can be rotated about its vertical longitudinal axis (34) by a C drive, which is controlled by the other CNC system, during a vertical movement when machining sheet-metal workpieces. An angle sensor for detecting the angle information of the C drive is provided, and the CNC system is designed such that said system determines a Z target value as the reference variable of the Z-axis drive from the angle information. The invention also relates to a method for controlling such a punching and/or nibbling machine.
