s7 . An improved system for segregating and identifying separate job sets (13 ;Fig. 3) from a commonly stacked output of plural job sets of copy sheets (11) sequentially generated by a printer and sequentially outputted into a sheet stacker (14) in which they may be superposed commonly stacked. A control system (100;Fig. 1) selects which standard size sheet supply tray (17,18 ;Fig. 1) of the printer will feed the copy sheets (11) for a selected job set, and can automatically feed and print a cover sheet (15,16) of a larger size or different orientation before or after the job set copy sheets (11) are fed. The sheet stacker may desirably stack the copy sheets (11) of the job sets commonly edge aligned but so that at least one edge area (15a, 16a) of the cover sheets (15, 16) extends substantially from at least one edge of the stack of copy sheets of the job sets to provide an exposed printed banner strip (15a,16a) for clear job sets segregation and separation even if the commonly stacked plural job sets of copy sheets are misaligned in subsequent handling The cover sheets (15,16) may be printed side up even if the job set copy sheets (11) are stacked printed side down.
摘要:
A sheet guide position sensor which determines the dimensions of a stack of sheets (54) in a tray (100) having adjustable sheet guides (102). An optical sensor (110) is arranged so that movement of a sheet guide (102) causes a variably graduated scale (104) to be moved past the sensor (110). The sensor (110) may either be a transmissive or reflective type analog sensor in which the strength of the signal generated by the sensor is converted into a position of the sheet guides. A recalibration process is used to prevent contamination of the scale from causing the size determinations by the sensor to be inaccurate. In one embodiment, a digital sensor in cooperation with a digital bar code (Fig.5) or other digital scale can be utilized to determine the variable sheet size, since the digital sensor is insensitive to contamination by dirt or paper particles, etc. In another embodiment, a wiper member (140; Fig.4) is used to clean the variably graduated scales (104).
