摘要:
An apparatus and method for supplying particulate material from a hopper is disclosed. A conduit (436) is operably connected to the hopper (414) and extends downwardly therefrom, the conduit permitting a flow of particulate material therewithin in a supplying operation. A nozzle (430) assembly is connected to the conduit and extending downwardly therefrom. The nozzle assembly defines an inlet (482) thereof for receiving particulate material from the conduit and defines an outlet (484) thereof for dispensing particulate material from the nozzle assembly. A conveyor (440) within the conduit assists in providing the flow of particulate material through the conduit. Within the nozzle assembly is a porous nozzle (490) with dimensions selected so as to provide a ratio of the inlet cross-sectional area to the outlet cross-sectional area and selection and application of an air boundary layer to the inner surface of the porous nozzle to maximize the porous nozzle's compression ratio such that the flow of particulate material does not seize as it progresses through the nozzle. The nozzle assembly is part of a mechanical valve (500), the nozzle assembly being slidably supported with respect to the conduit. The slidable nozzle assembly moves up and down with respect to a flow control device to respectively open and close the valve. In the closed position the flow control device blocks the flow of particulate material from the nozzle assembly and in the open position the flow control device allows particulate material to flow from the nozzle assembly.

A particulate filling system for assisting in filling a container (16) from a hopper containing a supply of particulate material is provided. The particulate filling system includes a conduit operably connected to the hopper and extending downwardly therefrom. The conduit is adapted to permit a flow of particulate material therewithin. A vacuum valve assembly (500) surrounds a porous tube (514) portion of the conduit and supplies a vacuum to the particulate material in the conduit which stops the flow of the particulate material between filling operations. The particulate filling system also includes a nozzle assembly operably connected to the conduit below the porous tube portion and extending downwardly therefrom. The nozzle assembly defines an inlet thereof for receiving particulate material from the conduit and defines an outlet thereof for dispensing particulate material from the nozzle assembly to the container. A conveyor within the conduit assists in providing the flow of particulate material from the hopper to the container.

An apparatus for assisting in filling a container from a hopper containing a supply of powder is provided. The apparatus includes a conduit operably connected to the hopper and extending downwardly therefrom. The conduit is adapted to permit a flow of powder therewithin. The apparatus also includes a nozzle operably connected to the conduit and extending downwardly therefrom. The nozzle defines an inlet thereof for receiving powder from the conduit and defines an outlet thereof for dispensing powder from the nozzle to the container. The inlet defines an inlet cross sectional area perpendicular to the flow the powder and an outlet defining an outlet cross sectional area perpendicular to the flow the powder. The inlet cross sectional area is larger than the outlet cross sectional area. The apparatus further includes an conveyor located at least partially within the conduit. The conveyor assists in providing the flow of powder from the container. The dimensions of the nozzle are selected so as to provide a ratio of the inlet cross sectional area to the outlet cross sectional area such that the flow of powder does not seize as it progresses through the nozzle.

A system and method enable toner to be packed more densely in a toner container and the container to be more quickly filled with toner. The system includes a container for storage of toner in an xerographic reproduction machine, the container having a fill opening, and a porous plug in a wall of the container; a filling system for mating to the fill opening of the container to provide toner to the container; and a source of negative pressure coupled to the porous plug to remove air from an internal volume of the container and more densely pack the toner stored in the container.

An apparatus is provided for directing toner from a hopper (14) containing a supply of toner to evenly fill a non-symmetric container (16) without excessive dusting and spills. The apparatus includes (a) a conduit member (36) operably connected to the hopper and having a discharging end for permitting a toner to be moved therethrough; (b) a conveyor device (40) located at I east partially within the conduit m ember for m oving the toner from the hopper in a toner moving direction towards the non-symmetric container; and (c) a nozzle member (34) for directing the toner from the conveyor to evenly fill the non-symmetric container. The nozzle member is operably connected to the discharge end of the conduit member and has a first end (90) connected to the conduit member, a second and opposite end (200) for dispensing moving toner into the non-symmetric container, and a central portion between the first end and the second and opposite end. The second and opposite end includes an enclosed toner redirecting structure (207) for changing the toner moving direction so as to enable even-filling of the non-symmetric container without excessive dusting and spills.
