Provided is a position information providing system which can reduce a time required for acquiring position information. An indoor transmitter (200-1) is adapted to provide position information by using a second positioning signal compatible with a first positioning signal which is a spread spectrum signal from each of a plurality of satellites. The indoor transmitter (200-1) includes an EEPROM (243) which stores therein position data for identifying an installation location thereof, an FPGA (245) operable to generate a second positioning signal including the position data as a spread spectrum signal, and a transmitting section (251 to 258) operable to transmit the spread spectrum signal. The second positioning signal is generated to repeat the same content in a cycle shorter than that of the first positioning signal.

A positional information providing system capable of providing positional information without degrading accuracy, even in an indoor environment with significant influence of multipath fading, is provided. An information providing apparatus (100) receives, at a reception antenna RX-ANT1, positioning signals from an indoor transmitter (200) subjected to spread spectrum coding with different PRN codes and transmitted through transmission antennas TX-ANT1 and TX-ANT2, respectively. Positional information providing apparatus (100) searches for PRN codes of the transmission signals independently and asynchronously. If one PRN code is acquired, using the synchronization loop thereof, acquisition of the other PRN code of the other channel is tried. If acquisition succeeds in two channels, the signal of one channel is selected and positioning process is executed.

A system for transmitting time-synchronized signals for positioning is provided. The system for transmitting positioning signals includes a transmitting apparatus (200) mounted on artificial satellite (102), a repeater (300-1) mounted on an artificial satellite 104, and a repeater (300-2) mounted on an artificial satellite (106). Positional relation among artificial satellites (102, 104 and 106) is specified beforehand. Transmitting apparatus (200) transmits a signal generated by encoding using a code identifying itself. Repeater (300-1) receives a signal Lqz(1) from the transmitting apparatus (200) and transmits the signal. Repeater (300-2) receives a signal Lqz(2) from the transmitting apparatus (200) and transmits the signal. The signals transmitted from the transmitting apparatus (200) and repeaters (300-1, 300-2) are received by receiving apparatuses (400-1, 400-2) having the function of receiving the signals.
