    摘要: Syringe pump has plunger head retainer (10) with two retainer arms (111 and 112) mounted on shafts (113 and 114) extending parallel to the syringe axis. Each shaft carries gear (121 and 122), which is engaged by common gear wheel (142) mounted on threaded shaft (146). After the syringe (3) has been loaded in the pump, the plunger head retainer (10) is driven forwards until a pad (107) coupled with a force sensor (108) detects contact with the head (36). This causes the retainer arms to be swung in across the forward side of the plunger head (36) and to be pulled rearwardly against the plunger head. The pump then reduces the force applied by the retainer arms to ensure that the force sensor (108) can respond to force on the plunger (35) during expulsion of liquid from the syringe.

    摘要: A syringe pump has a drive mechanism 7 for moving the plunger 35 of a syringe 3 along a barrel 30. Ears 33 at the rear of the barrel 30 engage against a wall 32 on the pump and an L shape clamp arm 44 is urged against the ears by a spring 49. The clamp arm 44 is mounted about an axis at right-angles to the syringe 3 and is articulated at a point 45 along its length. A lever 52 having a flag 53 at one end is pivoted about a horizontal axis by movement of the arm and moves relative to an optical sensor 54 so that the output of the sensor indicates whether the syringe 3 is correctly loaded in the pump. The clamp arm 44 is rotated away from the barrel 30 by the drive mechanism during loading of the syringe 3.

    摘要: A syringe pump has an arm 21 swung against the barrel of the syringe 3. The arm 21 is coupled to a strip mask 30 having a row of transparent apertures 31 to 35 of differing length. The mask 30 extends above a CCD array 40 of sensing elements 41 and below a concave mirror 43, which produces a collimated beam of radiation on the mask from an LED 42. The length of sensing elements 41 exposed to radiation through an aperture 31 to 35 in the mask 30 gives an approximate indication of barrel size; the position of an edge of the aperture gives an accurate indication. The pump compares the barrel size with information relating size to syringe type and produces an indication of syringe type on a display 11.

    摘要: A laryngeal mask assembly has an elliptical mask portion 13 at the patient end 14 of a tube 1. The mask portion 13 has a mount 15 attached to the tube 1 and a cuff 16 extending around the periphery of the mount. The patient end 14 of the tube 1 opens into the centre of the mount 15, which has three lateral ribs 31, 32 and 33 projecting forwardly and extending parallel and spaced from one another. The forward end of the ribs have a concave profile 36 with rounded projections 37 at each end. The ribs 31 to 33 act to hold the epiglottis away from the tube opening during insertion of the assembly and to provide an air passage into the tube.

    摘要: An epidural catheter 1 with a soft tip 2 is made by co-extruding an inner layer 11 and an outer layer 12, the inner layer being of a stiffer plastics that the outer layer. The extrusion machine 20 has two extrusion heads 21 and 22, the one 21 for the inner layer 11 having a movable cone 29 that is moved in periodically to increase the internal diameter of inner layer and then to cut off flow of extrudate entirely. This produces a region 13 having a part 14 with a thinner inner layer 11 and part 15 where the inner layer is absent. The tubing 40 is cut at the end of these regions 13 which are then closed and formed with a side opening 3 so that the patient end tip 2 is less stiff than the remainder of the catheter.
