The invention relates to a poultry fodder which contains corn, hydrocarbonates, fat, protein, micronutrients, vitamins, possibly enzymes and/or other conventional fodder components and has been subjected to a heat treatment. The fodder contains corn grains and, if desired, coarsely crushed and powdered corn and it has been expanded. The invention also relates to a corresponding procedure for the manufacture of poultry fodder, in which procedure non-powdered corn grains are mixed with the other fodder components and the mixture obtained is expanded.

The invention relates to a method for producing a nutrition additive for use for the prevention of intestinal diseases, in which method brewery yeast is filtered and the filtered brewery yeast is treated hydrolytically so that the cellular structure breaks open and the effective concentration of oligo- and/or polysaccharides, betaglucane and/or proteins on the surface of the cellular structures is increased. Moreover, the invention relates to a nutrition additive produced by treating filtered brewery yeast by a hydrolytic process so that the cellular structure breaks open. In addition, the invention relates to the use of a nutrition additive in connection with the feeding of animals, the additive being used in an amount of 0.1 - 1.0 w-% of the total amount of raw material. The invention also relates to the use of the nutrition additive in question for humans for balancing intestinal microbes and preventing intestinal diseases.

The invention relates to a complete fodder for the feeding of cows during the dry period. The complete fodder contains the fodder components necessary for the cow during the dry period as well as anionic salts, and the complete fodder is so granulated that the fodder components and the anionic salts form a uniform, homogeneous and mainly solid mixture. The invention also relates to a fodder diet for the feeding of cows during the dry period. The cows are fed for about 3-4 weeks before calving with complete fodder containing the fodder components necessary for the cow during the dry period as well as anionic salts, and that the complete fodder is so granulated that the fodder components and anionic salts make up a uniform, homogeneous and mainly solid mixture.

The invention relates to a method for testing a fodder component for the feeding of ruminants via ruminal fermentation simulation known in itself in an artificial rumen so that the fodder component is decomposed by the action of microbes into fermentation products utilizable in the animal's metabolism and providing the nutritive substances needed by the animal. In the method, fermentation products substantially proportional to the yield of the animal are measured and compared with corresponding results achieved using known fodder components whose productional effect is known. Based on the comparison, the effect of the fodder component on the animal's yield is determined.
