The disclosure relates to a device and associated method for measuring depth of chest compressions to a patient. Said device comprising: an accelerometer capable of being disposed on the patient and producing an acceleration signal corresponding to an acceleration of chest compressions; a reference accelerometer capable of being disposed elsewhere on the patient relative to the accelerometer to experience the same external accelerations as the patient experiences, and producing a reference acceleration signal; a processor configured to combine the reference acceleration signal with the acceleration signal to produce an estimated actual acceleration signal; and a means for double integrating the estimated actual acceleration signal, said means for double integrating operably connected to the processor, and said means for double integrating capable of producing a measured depth signal corresponding to a measured depth of chest compressions.
