A device for separating soil, clod and/or stones from root vegetables or bulbs is disclosed. In one embodiment, a device (10) is disclosed which comprises a plurality of resiliently deformable rotatable members (12, 14) which are arranged so that soil, stones and/or clods (26) are drawn down between the rotatable members while root vegetables or bulbs (18) pass thereover. The rotatable members are arranged in an array (41) having an upstream end (50) at which material comprising soil, clod and/or stones together with the root vegetables or bulbs is charged on to the array, and a downstream end (52) defining a discharge location for the root vegetables or bulbs separated from the soil, clod and/or stones during passage of the material along the array. The array includes at least a first resiliently deformable rotatable member (12) and a second resiliently deformable rotatable member (14) positioned adjacent to the first rotatable member. The first rotatable member is located upstream of the second rotatable member. All of the resiliently deformable rotatable members in the array are arranged to rotate in the same direction. The speed of rotation of the second rotatable member is lower than the speed of rotation of the first rotatable member.
