A first movement of a slack arm (44) of the tensioning system (32) may be identified (206). It may be determined that the slack arm has been maintained in a first calibration position for a first predetermined time interval (216), and a first calibration setting for the slack arm (44) may be determined based upon the first calibration position (220). A second movement of a slack arm (44) of the tensioning system (32) may be identified (226). It may be determined that the slack arm (44) has been maintained in a second calibration position for a second predetermined time interval (232), and a second calibration setting for the slack arm (44) may be determined based upon the identified second calibration position (236).

    摘要: During the process of binding a bale of crop material with binding twine in a crop baler, malfunction of the knotter (54) is checked once upon completion of the binding sequence for one bale, and then a second time after the twine has been prepared by the knotter for formation of the next bale. The monitoring system is particularly appropriate for a double knotting mechanism in which each knotter operates through two complete operating cycles during each actuation thereof, a first cycle to complete a knot associated with the just finished bale, and a second cycle to complete a knot in two separate strands of twine to prepare the same for the next successive bale. The position of a slack takeup arm moved by the binding twine between a number of positions during the double knotting sequence is monitored by the electronic portion of the system, including a computer, so that if the takeup arm is located improperly at one of the critical checking times in the sequence, such con­dition is reported to the operator through a visual display in the tractor which tows the baler.

    摘要: The knotter clutch control (56) prevents the driven dog (38) of the clutch (20) from flipping out into its actuated position for engagement with the driving lug (40) of the clutch (20) unless the lug (40) is in a position wherein positive driving engagement between the lug (40) and the dog (38) is assured. A strategically positioned control lobe (92) on the cam ring (42) of the drive sprocket (32) for the clutch (20) blocks release of the dog (38) into its extended position when the driving lug (40) is at the lug pickup point on its path of travel. The dog (38) is free to be released when the lug (40) is at all other positions on its path of travel so as to be in position for engagement with the lug (40) when it next arrives at the pickup point. The dog (38) is reset into its retracted position after a single revolution of the knotter drive shaft (22).
