Systems and methods of improving vision using an ophthalmological laser system are provided. A predetermined pattern characterized by a plurality of positions along a plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues of an eye of a patient is obtained. A laser illumination light beam is aligned in accordance with one or more of the plurality of positions along the plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues. The laser illumination light beam is delivered in the predetermined pattern to the plurality of spatially distributed iris tissues of the patient. At least a subset of the spatially distributed iris tissues is cauterized by the delivery of the laser illumination light beam in the predetermined pattern, thereby resulting in a permanent decrease in diameter of the pupil of the eye.

The object of the invention is a laser device for eye surgery used by ophthalmologists in the treatment with capsulotomy and iriditomy, and a device for selective laser trabeculoplasty. The essence of the ophthalmic laser combined device of the invention lies in that it has one single laser with one optical axis for both wavelengths; the basic wavelength of 1064 nm and the frequency doubled wavelength of 532 nm. Switching between both wavelengths is carried out by a polarization orientation switch. Frequency doubling is inactive at the wavelength of 1064 nm and it is active for the wavelength of 532 nm. At the wavelength of 532 nm additional optical elements for attenuating and collimating the laser pulse are switched on.

A method for altering iris pigment in a human or animal, thereby altering iris color of an iris from a first iris color to a second iris color. The method comprises selecting one or more than one laser capable of generating one or more than one laser beam that will remove iris pigment of at least two different iris pigment colors from the iris and applying the one or more than one laser beam to the iris of a first iris color to remove the iris pigment. Removal of the iris pigment causes an alteration in the color of the first iris from the first iris color to the second iris color, where either the second iris color is both a different hue and less saturated than the first iris color, or where the second iris color is both a different hue and less saturated than the first iris color.

The control means sets a value of a parameter related to irradiation of the laser beam, the parameter including a parameter related to the shift of the focus shift position, according to the treatment mode selected with the selection receiving means.

A laser system for eye surgery comprises an eye-surgical laser apparatus and a set of interface devices. The eye-surgical laser apparatus has optical components for providing pulsed focused laser radiation with radiation properties matched to the generation of photodisruptions in human eye tissue and a control unit for positional control of the radiation focus of the laser radiation. The control unit is designed for executing various control programs that represent various types of incision figures. Each interface device includes a contact body that is transparent to the laser radiation, with an abutment face for abutment against an eye to be treated, and a coupling portion for detachable coupling of the interface device onto a counter-coupling portion of the laser apparatus. The interface devices differ by virtue of a differing optical effect on the laser radiation provided in the laser apparatus.
