    摘要: A simple and versatile system for the safe transfer and collection of body fluids, such as blood, wherein an enlarged generally cup-shaped guide port (10) receives therewithin the transfer needle (16) which is recessed rearwardly from the open end of the guide port (10) whereby the transfer needle assembly (12) may be manipulated without likelihood of needlestick injury to the health care worker. Larger guide ports (10) have apertured snap on caps (22) to facilitate and guide a transfer receiver into contact with the needle (16) as well as to isolate further the worker's hand from the contaminated needle. A plurarility of sizes of guide ports (10) and caps (22) are provided for varying fluid receivers, with all having common interlocking means for the transfer needle assembly (12).

    摘要: A sealed fluid transfer device comprised of tubing, a proximal fitting, and a distal needle assembly is provided. The needle assembly includes a needle hub secured to a needle cannula. A cantilevered actuator arm extends outwardly from the needle hub having an actuator button at its free end. The needle assembly is disposed in a barrel and can move from a distal position, where the needle is exposed, to a proximal position, where the needle is shielded. The barrel includes a septum which seals the barrel. A spring is disposed in the barrel for propelling the needle assembly to the proximal position. The barrel includes an aperture that receives the actuator button for locking the spring in a compressed condition. Depression of the actuator button enables the spring to propel the needle assembly into its proximal position. A safety mechanism prevents inadvertent depression of the actuator button.

    摘要: A filling system for syringes utilizing short needles to be filled from a vial having a thick septum is described. The system may be useful in any situation where the septum or vial stopper of a medication container is thicker than the usable length of the needle on the delivery device. Preferably, the syringe is filled just prior to use. The short needle includes an optional limiter which only permits a certain predetermined length of the needle cannula to protrude beyond the limiter a distance which limits penetration of the needle tip into both the skin and a vial stopper. The system and adapter may be useful for needles having a protrusion distance from approximately 0.5 mm to 3 mm, or any needle with a protrusion length shorter that the thickness of a septum to be accessed. Furthermore, a device is provided with shielding capabilities to shield the needle of the device.

    摘要: A single-use syringe (10) includes a needle (18), barrel (16), plunger assembly (20) and shield (12). The barrel (16) bears a locking member (26) which encircles the front end of the barrel (16) and is carried forward by the barrel (16) to a position where it engages the shield (12) and is retained by the shield (12) such that the locking member (26) is separated from the barrel (16) as the barrel (16) is withdrawn rearwardly after use. The locking member (26) is resilient and, after it is removed from the barrel (16), assumes a configuration which prevents subsequent forward movement of the barrel (16) within the shield (12). The barrel includes a frangible seal (30) which is broken by rearward movement of needle mount (32). The shield (12) includes a shield extender (14) for controlling the depth of penetration of the needle. The syringe can also be used to inject medicament into a IV bag via a male port as shown in Fig. 7.
