The apparatus comprises a support for the object to be projected, an impeller assembly configured to transfer energy to the object to project it away from the apparatus; and an actuating mechanism operable by a user interaction with the apparatus. The impeller assembly may be driven mechanically by the actuating mechanism by transfer of energy input by the user interaction. The apparatus may be used for an animal and in particular a dog. The described apparatus removes the need for a further power supply and so avoids unnecessary energy consumption and provides advantages in relation to cost, reliability, and longevity. Embodiments of the invention are modular in nature which greatly assists in training the animal to use the apparatus.

A pitching system is provided for throwing baseballs, softballs, and the like, which is synchronized to work in conjunction with a video display (304, 314) to permit a batter to view a moving pitcher (310) prior to and during delivery of the pitch. The machine includes a power head (12) having at least two and preferably three coacting wheels (72) for propelling a ball toward a batter. Three AC motors (80) and companion motor drives are provided for causing the wheels to rotate. The motor drives include dynamic braking circuits to permit rapid deceleration of the wheels. A pair of linear actuators (50, 60) is provided to permit the power head to be moved to predetermined horizontal and vertical positions. A programmable control unit (220) chooses the video image appropriate for a particular pitch and causes the wheels to rotate at appropriate speeds, and causes the machine to assume appropriate horizontal and vertical positions.

A ball dispensing head (23) is mounted to the enclosure (3) adjacent the upper ball dispensing outlet (13) for serving table tennis balls to a player at selected rates and trajectories. The ball dispensing head (23) includes a ball size adjustment mechanism (31) to enable table tennis balls of at least two diameters to selectively pass through the ball dispensing head (23) when one or another diameter of the at least two different ball diameters is selected by the player.

Um die Baugröße solcher Ballwurfmachinen gering halten zu können ist erfindungsgemäss vorgesehen, die Energie für den Abflug einerseits und den Spin andererseits in unterschiedlichen Systemkomponenten (2-8; 14) aufzubringen. Der Ballabwurf erfolgt dabei mit Hilfe eines Reibrades (2) oder eines umlaufenden Schlages während der Spineffekt mit Hilfe von am Abflugkanal angebrachter Rollwielerrstände (14) erzeugt wird. Ein Spin in allen Richtungen wird dadurch möglich. Darüberhinaus wird das System mit einer umfangreichen Sensorik und Elektronik bestückt. Durch die eingesetzten Mikrorechner können beliebige Ballabwurfkombinationen oder Kombinationsfolgen programmiert werden. Das System ist fernsteuerbar. Es ermöglicht einen vollautomatischen Ballwechsel durch die Integration eines Ballabflugsensors und eines Ballankunftssensors.

A tennis ball supply apparatus, according to an embodiment of the present application, comprises: a communication unit which transmits and receives data to and from an external apparatus; a firing unit which fires balls; a driving unit capable of moving the firing unit; and a control unit which controls the firing unit and the driving unit, wherein the control unit controls the driving unit to move to a first point, determines, on the basis of a location signal received from the conununication unit, that the driving unit is located at the first point, controls a ball to be fired through the firing unit when it is determined that the driving unit is located at the first point, controls the driving unit to move to a second point when a ball firing operation of the firing unit is terminated, and determines, on the basis of the location signal, that the driving unit is located at the second point.
