Self-supporting structure comprising a monobloc for installing cylindrical filtration cartridges therein. In one embodiment a structure provides two side panels on each side of the monobloc used for sealing the numerous passageways, at the same time, provided within the monobloc. Such a structure aims to sharply reduce the number of components required to install cylindrical filtration cartridges in a filtration plant, while keeping the same number of cartridges. Thus the invention contributes to highly reduce the investment and the maintenance costs of a filtration plant, and offers also the opportunity to reduce the operational cost of such a plant.

A filtration membrane holder includes a top plate and a bottom plate. The top plate includes crossbars of a first "*" shape and a matching part at the side of a periphery of the top plate. The bottom plate is a cavity structure and includes crossbars of a second "*" shape and a matching cavity at the side of a periphery of the bottom plate. When the top plate and the bottom plate are assembled, the matching part of the top plate is correspondingly combined with the matching cavity of the bottom plate to deposit the top plate within the cavity structure of the bottom plate and to make the crossbars of the first "*" shape and the ones of second "*" shape be assembled tightly. The area and strength of the filtration membrane holder may support a filtrate membrane and prevent it from curving and shedding, as well as pass blood plasma without resistance.

[Solution] A filtration apparatus filters liquid by causing the liquid to penetrate a plurality of hollow filter sheets 1. Therefore, a gap between the hollow filter sheet 1 and the suction pipe 3 is watertightly sealed. In the hollow filter sheet 1, a hollow portion 10 is provided between two filters 11, and then a spacer 12 with a surface having pits and projections is provided in the hollow portion 10. A narrow passage space 7 allowing liquid to pass through is provided between the filter 11 and the spacer 12 by pressing the two filters 11 against surfaces of the spacer 12 with the packings 5 and causing the filters 11 to be deformed into a shape according to the surfaces of the spacer 12. A direct methanol type fuel cell 10 is provided with a generated gas ejection part 50 having a bundle 51 made up of hollow fiber membranes 52 extending between a fuel electrode 23 and a liquid fuel vaporizing layer 43 that vaporizes a methanol aqueous solution and supplies methanol gas to the fuel electrode 23. The hollow fiber membranes 52 selectively pass carbon dioxide within a mixture gas that includes methanol, the carbon dioxide generated at the fuel electrode 23 and the like, and eject the carbon dioxide via end portions of the hollow fiber membranes 52 that open at a side surface of the fuel cell 10 via hollow portions. The fuel cell 10 as a high carbon dioxide ejection capability, and suppresses leak of methanol gas. A pressure applying part 45 may be provided to apply a back pressure to the methanol aqueous solution within a fuel storage part 42, so as to further improve the carbon dioxide ejection capability.
