Aqueous effluents having a metallic ion charge, and especially those containing nickel, are stripped by subjecting said metallic ions to a treatment using complexing polymers, their metallic ion content then being sufficiently low for them to be safely discharged into the environment. The complexing polymers are regenerated by said treatment and can be reused after being optionally neutralized. The regenerating solutions are recyclable in treatment baths.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for the continuous countercurrent desorption of targeted materials including metals, non-metals and inorganic and/or organic compounds of thereof, wherein the desorption method is divided to the two modes namely: (I) desorption and (II) re-absorption. The desorption of the target material from the loaded resin using the fresh desorbent takes place in mode (I). According to mode (I) loaded resin moves upwardly in a chamber. According to mode (II) impurities are desorbed from resin and targeted material in solution can be re-absorbed. The resin moves downwardly in another chamber during mode (II). Concentrated eluates, which are suitable for the direct economical recovery of chemical elements and/or compounds thereof, can be produced using the present invention. The apparatus of the present invention includes desorption and re-absorption zones that are configured using a 'pipe-in-pipe' construction or a U-shape construction.

A novel apparatus for an ion exchange system is provided. The apparatus comprises a first column for housing a first fluidized bed through which particles are flowed countercurrently to an ion-containing fluid to yield ion-loaded particles, a second column through which the ion-loaded particles are flowed countercurrently to an eluent fluid to yield regenerated particles, and a transport section which transfers the regenerated particles for re-introduction into the first column to repeat the ion exchange cycle in a continuous manner. A continuous method of ion exchange is also provided.

A water treating apparatus is provided which can treat waste water for use as raw water in an ultrapure water producing system without addition of various kinds of chemicals. The apparatus includes a first water tank 41 for receiving acid waste water, a second water tank 42 for subjecting the waste water from the first water tank 41 to solid-liquid separation and discharging supernatant liquid, an ion exchange tank 49 including ion exchange resin 93 and an aeration tube 88 for generating treated water through a membrane filter 91, a precipitation tank 50 for settling ion exchange resin 93, an air lift pump 95 for introducing ion exchange resin 93 from the precipitation tank 50 into the first water tank 41, and a return air lift pump 61 for returning ion exchange resin 93 from the second water tank 42 to the ion exchange tank 49. The ion exchange resin 49 acts to exchange ions with fluorine ions of treated water in the ion exchange tank 49 and is regenerated by acid waste water in the first water tank 41.
