The additive manufacturing system (100) further comprises a liquid material handling system (120) comprising a binder inlet (124). The binder inlet (124) is coupled to a binder drum (128) and is configured to receive a binder from the binder drum (128). The additive manufacturing system (100) also comprises an additive manufacturing machine (110) coupled to the powder material handling system (170) and the liquid material handling system (120). The additive manufacturing machine (110) receives the virgin powder and the binder from the powder material handling (170) and liquid material handling systems (120) and is configured to manufacture a work product using the virgin powder and the binder.

An oxygen content of the group of the particles is 950 ppm or less. A volume-based particle size frequency distribution of the powder for forming 3D objects has a peak top in a particle diameter range of 40 µm or greater and 70 µm or less, and a peak top in a particle diameter range of 10 µm or greater and 30 µm or less. A ratio (a frequency (%) of the peak top in the particle diameter range of 40 µm or greater and 70 µm or less)/(a frequency (%) of the peak top in the particle diameter range of 10 µm or greater and 30 µm or less) is 1.5 or greater.

摘要: We have developed a scalable approach to directly incorporate grain-refining nanoparticles into conventional hot-tear-susceptible aluminum alloy powders. These aluminum alloy powders may be additively manufactured into high-strength, crack-free aluminum alloys with fine equiaxed microstructures by incorporating nanoparticle nucleants to control solidification during additive manufacturing. Some variations provide an additively manufactured aluminum alloy comprising aluminum, one or more strengthening elements, and at least one grain-refining element, wherein the additively manufactured aluminum alloy has a microstructure with equiaxed grains. Aluminum alloys with grain refiners are useful in many processes beyond additive manufacturing. Some variations provide an aluminum alloy comprising aluminum, copper, magnesium, at least one of zinc or silicon, and grain-refining nanoparticles selected from zirconium, tantalum, niobium, or titanium, wherein the aluminum alloy has a microstructure that is substantially crack-free with equiaxed grains.

A sensor (280) is positioned within the cavity (214), and the sensor (280) is configured to detect a vapor threshold within the interior cavity (214). The vapor is formed from an evaporated portion of the at least one fluid within the cavity (214). A controller (400) is communicatively coupled to the sensor (280), and the controller (400) is configured to provide control signals for directing fluid movement of the at least one fluid based on one or more signals received from the sensor (280).
