A mounting device for machining tools, preferably milling cutters, which are secured to the mounting device (11, 30) by means of a connecting means (12). For making possible a rapid exchange of machining tools (10), such as milling cutters having different diameters and entering angles, the mounting device comprises an adapter (11, 30) which is attached to a drive spindle (13) and carries the machining tool (10), and an operating means (15; 31, 41), arranged in the adapter (11, 30) and manually shiftable between a blocking position and a releasing position. In its blocking position the operating means (15; 31; 41) actuates a blocking means (19; 33; 38) to engage the machining tool (10) for carrying same when the connecting means (12) is loosened. In its releasing position the operating means (15; 31; 41) allows removal of the machining tool (10) from the adapter (11, 30).

In many devices the pressure between gripping faces and gripped faces related to the torsional load applied to turn the gripped object. In these devices the grip can be made to relax automatically as the load is removed. The invention relates to improvements in such devices, and to designs of mechanical coupling devices utilising this basic idea. Specifically, the invention proposes a method of improving tool of the cam-operated gripper-element type, in which method there is applied to the gripper surface a friction-enhancing chemical. Secondly is proposed an object-coupling apparatus including an object-gripper together with a cam device having a cam member (4) which urges the gripper into gripping contact with the object (1), the resulting friction being enhanced by a prior chemical treatment which prevents the cam member reversing and the gripper releasing the object so long as force is maintained.

Dans leur position de blocage les moyens de fonctionnement (15); (31); (41) actionnent des moyens de blocage (19), (33); (38) qui engagent et portent l'outil d'usinage (10) lorsque les moyens de connection (12) sont desserres. La pièce centrale du mandrin, d'axe (3), porte des mors (7) pouvant être déplacés entre une position de serrage de l'outil (5) et une position desserrée. Chaque mors comporte un logement (20) ouvert vers l'axe (3), présentant un fond (23) et des faces latérales (24, 25). Un galet (29) est monté contre le fond du logement, en étant mobile en rotation autour de son axe parallèle à l'axe (3), et en translation entre les deux faces latérales du logement. Le fond du logement forme un V très aplati au centre duquel se positionne le galet lorsqu'un opérateur serre les mors sur l'outil. Puis, lors d'une rotation (R) à droite du mandrin, le galet roule sans glisser sur le mors et sur l'outil, jusqu'à être coincé en butée contre la face latérale droite (24) du logement. On obtient ainsi un excellent serrage de l'outil.
