[PROBLEMS] To provide a print character selector of a printer and assembling method of operating member of the print character selector which configures both the axial direction regulation mechanism for the indexing regulation of the selector wheel 6 and the rotational direction regulating mechanism for the selection regulation of the print character of the endless print band 8 at the knob shaft 16, such that it is possible to simplify the device, reduce the number of parts, simplify the assembling process, and improve the work efficiency. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The print character selector of a printer focuses on forming a plurality of regulating recesses (16A) at periphery of the knob shaft (16) of the operating member (5) both in axial and rotational directions of the shaft, and providing urging member for regulation (9) engaging and disengaging to and from the regulating recesses (16A) on a printer frame (3). A plurality of regulating recesses (16A) capable of selecting any one of the selector wheels (6) by the moving operation of the knob (15) along the axial direction, and capable of selecting any one of the print characters by the rotating operation of the knob (15) around the axial direction are provided on the knob shaft (16), and the urging member for regulation (9) engaging and disengaging to and from these regulating recesses (16A.) are provided on the printer frame (3).

A damper member 300 is provided between a rear end 124 of a base portion 120 of a fixed print portion 100 and a collar 203 of a supporting case 201 of a movable print portion 200. A print face 111 of the fixed print portion 100 movable relative to a main body case 2 is projected from a print face 211 of the movable print portion 200 immovable relative to the main body case 2 in a stamping direction. At the time of stamping, the print face 111 makes contact with a stamping object ahead of the print face 211 and due to a reaction force from a stamping object, a damper member 300 softer than the fixed print member 112 is compressed more than the fixed print member 112. As a consequence, the print face 111 and the print face 211 are matched on a same plane on the surface of the stamping object 50 so that no unevenness occurs in a print image stamped by synthesizing the print face 111 with the print face 211.
