A trailer comprises a platform (11) suspended on one close-coupled pair of wheels (12 and 13) on either side. Two hydraulic jacks (18 and 52) on either side act between the platform (11) and a respective swinging suspension arm (16). The working fluid spaces of the jacks (18 and 52) are connected in a hydraulic circuit including a valve block, a liquid reservoir, a hand pump and one ortwo stop cocks. The stop cocks are left open when the trailer is set for towing so that liquid transfer between the working fluid spaces and the reservoir is allowed. The hand pump is operated with the stop cocks closed to extend or contract the jacks (18 and 52) to pivot the platform (11) when the trailer is stationary. The platform (11) is locked in any selected attitude for loading or unloading when the stop cocks are closed and the hand pump is not operated.
