Said link comprises a pair of flanges (1, 2) having overlapping portions which are provided with bores for the pin of the link (3, 10). The portions of the flanges abutting each other extend in parallel to the pivoting plane of the flanges, The portions of the flanges (8, 9) are in mesh with each other by toothings of which the teeth (12) and the interdental spaces (13) are arranged in circles centered on the pin of the link. The flanges (1, 2) are connected to a base plate (5). In order to obtain a good, autonomous connection, resisting to traction forces, during the closure of the end link (7), the teeth are provided with a clearance. By means of such clearance, the corresponding portions of the flanges (8, 9) are kept connected in a meshing relationship by the transverse forces generated by the traction forces whereas the base plate (5) is connected to the flanges (8, 9) without being subjected to traction or transverse forces.

A master link joint for a drive chain is disclosed. The disclosed master link joint includes two master links. Each master link includes a first half link and a second half link that engage each other along mating abutment surfaces. The two master links are disposed on opposite sides of the chain. The first half links are coupled by a pin that traverses the chain and the second half links are coupled by a bushing that traverses the chain. The mating abutment surfaces include a first ramp that meets a second offset ramp at a junction or root. An angle θ defined by the second ramps of the mating abutment surfaces and a line parallel to the rail or bottom pad of the half links ranges from about 45 to about 53°.
