The invention relates to a device for intermittently conveying and positioning vehicles (1) along a machining line (10), said vehicles rolling on their own wheels (5). Conveying systems such as plate conveyors (32) or drag chain conveyors (13) with which the vehicles can be lifted and moved on to the next stage, are allocated to the vehicle wheels (5) on each side of the vehicle. The aim of the invention is to provide a device of this type which is suitable for automation, which can be used for vehicles of different types and which can position and align the vehicles transversally and longitudinally accurately and efficiently. At each workstation (11), a prismatic wheel trough (15, 36) is therefore allocated to each of the two wheel tracks (9). Said troughs are able to accommodate wheels (5) of different sizes in the same position. The vehicle wheels (5) are supported in the troughs in such a way that they can move crosswise. A wheel contact plate (21, 37) is arranged at a certain distance from each wheel trough (15, 36). These wheel contact plates (21, 37) support the wheels (5) of the other vehicle axle in such a way that they can move crosswise. The wheel contact plates (21, 37) can be configured to cover all of the various centre distances (A) of the different types of vehicles processed in the machining line (10). The same applies to the breadth (B) of the roll-off tracks (9) of the wheel troughs (15, 36) and the wheel contact plates (21, 37). A pair of moveable, guided centering rims (25, 25') which project above the roll-off level of the roll-off tracks (9) are allocated respectively to the wheel troughs (15, 36) and the wheel contact plates (21, 37). The invention relates to an automatic application system for self-adhesive protective film to vehicle bodies according to [1]. The aim of the invention is to improve said system so as to reduce investment costs while increasing productivity. Said aim is achieved by providing two separate application stations (9, 10), one (10) of which comprises two pairs (13a, b and 14a, b) of opposite, stationary industrial robots (12, 13, 14) while the other one (9) comprises one pair (12a, b) of opposite, stationary industrial robots (12, 13, 14) for jointly handling and applying one respective piece of film (24) such that the film can be simultaneously pasted onto all body parts (2, 3, 4) within the cycle time. One respective robot of a pair of robots includes a fixture for a supply roll (22, 22 , 22 ) and a cutting device as part of its set of tools while the opposite application robot of said pair of robots supports a suction strip. In order to perforate a stretched piece of film to the exact contour required, the same is moved along a stationary perforation tool (60). A magazine (21, 21 , 21 ) for several supply rolls (22, 22 , 22 ) is disposed near a robot, the application robot (12a, 13a, 14a) automatically transferring a supply roll from said magazine (21, 21', 21') as required. The supply rolls are relatively small and contain the film required for about 100 to 200 application processes. Each supply roll (22, 22 , 22 ) is provided with a disposable winding core (23) made of hard cardboard or plastic.
