Suction head (1) and method for picking articles (20). The suction head comprises a sleeve-like (14) body having a connection (16) to an under pressure source at one end and an opening for picking up particles (20) at the other end thereof. Along side the sleeve channels (5) are provided being connected to the under pressure source an opening near the lower end (3) of the sleeve. The lower end (3) of the sleeve (14) is delimited by a circumferential edge so that the article is picked with only a small clearance between the article and the inner circumference of the circumferential ring (6). A platen (7) is provided against which the article is placed. This platen can be moved relative to the sleeve.

An indexing conveyor 1 travels at (90) degrees to a wrapping output conveyor (2), which conveys elongate packs (3) of circular biscuits at high speed with their diameter-ends leading. The indexing conveyor 1 receives the packs (3) and conveys them in an orthogonal direction, with their long-dimensions leading. The indexing conveyor (1) has a regular series of V-section lugs (11), which receive and centre the packs (3) and can accommodate a range of diameters of circular packs (3) whilst maintaining a constant pitch. A pair of lifting bars (12) lifts a group (31) of packs (3) at a time during the dwell period of the index of the (10) conveyor (1). The packs (3) of each group (31) are moved together during the lift so that they are touching, to ensure that a robotic pick-and-place system can pick up the group (31) reliably.

The present invention provides a commodity carrying-out apparatus of an automatic vending machine capable of reliably carrying out a commodity one by one without causing falling down or clinging of the commodities, and efficiently housing even commodities having no definite shape. According to the present invention, the commodities in the commodity column can be supported by the commodity supporting members, and therefore even when the commodity carried out of the commodity column falls down or is changed in its posture, the following commodity does not fall down due to the carried-out commodity. Since the commodity supporting members each exist between the commodities, clinging of the commodities to each other does not occur. As a result, the commodities can be reliably carried out one by one. Even the commodities having no definite shape, which cannot be self-sustained in a vertical orientation, can be housed in the vertical orientation by being supported respectively by the commodity supporting members.

A tray (12) loading machine for filling compartmentalized trays for products such as cookies or the like comprises an inline arrangement of a product inspection conveyor (62) positioned downstream from an infeed conveyor and a swing conveyor (66) positioned to receive products leaving the inspection conveyor and for transporting them toward a conveyor (34) carrying the empty trays (12) to be filled. Both the tray transporting conveyor (34) and swing conveyor (66) are controlled by the system's PLC to cause movement of each as the products are being fed into adjacent cavities in the trays.

Ein schmales Förderband transportiert die Produkte (11) in einer Kolonne in Förderrichtung (A). Ein Fühler (16) erfasst den Durchlauf der Produkte (11) und steuert über eine Steuereinheit (15) Hubmotoren (18) derart, dass an deren Hubstange (19) unten angebrachte Auflagen (20) aus einer unteren Durchlaufstellung in eine obere Durchlaufstellung angehoben werden und dabei das betreffende Produkt (11) angehoben wird. Sobald alle Auflagen (20) angehoben sind, werden die Produkte (11) in Verpakkungsbehälter ausgestossen. Beim Absenken der Auflagen (20) werden diese gespreizt. Die Vorrichtung ermöglicht eine hohe Leistung bei schonender Handhabung der Produkte.
