The invention concerns a method of advantageously and efficiently processing a flow of combustible sulphur-containing effluents while recovering the sulphur in elementary form. This method consists in particular of two consecutive steps: a step for the combustion of the flow of combustible sulphur-containing effluents with an excess oxidant gas, and a step for the post-combustion of the effluents from the combustion step with an acid gas. The flow of effluents from the post-combustion, which are free of chemical compounds that reduce the efficiency of the Claus catalysts, is processed in a Claus unit which recovers the sulphur in elementary form.
