Le procédé d'isomérisation d'alkylbenzène, en particulier des xylènes, est basé sur l'application d'un catalyseur qui comprend un support d'oxyde inorganique contenant au moins un composé d'oxyde mélangé de SiO2 et Al2O3 dans n'importe quelle proportion; l'isomérisation est effectuée à une température comprise entre 150 et 300oC sous une pression allant de la pression atmosphérique à quelques atmosphères environ en présence d'un catalyseur ayant été produit par réaction du support avec un composé d'alkyle d'aluminium du type AlRyX3-y' où R est CH3, C2H5 ou C3H7, y vaut 1 ou 2 et X représente Cl, de préférence Al(C2H5)Cl2. Le support peut être imprégné avec du platine et/ou du rhénium. Ce procédé d'isomérisation se caractérise en ce qu'il peut avoir lieu sans promoteur, et en ce que l'isomérisation du xylène dans des conditions modérées donne un degré élevé de conversion et une grande sélectivité. Il a été démontré à l'aide d'exemples que le procédé peut avoir lieu dans des conditions de température allant de 150 à 300oC et sous une pression comprise entre la pression atmosphérique environ et quelques atmosphères, avec de 0 à 30 % d'éthylbenzène dans la matière première d'alimentation et avec ou sans dilution de la matière première d'alimentation avec du toluène. Le procédé s'applique particulièrement bien à la conversion de méta-xylène en orthoxylène et en para-xylène. Des exemples de production du catalyseur sont également donnés.

A new zeolite material designated EU-1 having a molar composition expressed by the formula: wherein R is a monovalent cation or '/n of a cation of valency n, X is silicon and/or germanium, Y is one or more of aluminium, iron, gallium or boron, and H 2 0 is water of hydration additional to water notionally present when R is H, and having an X-ray pattern substantially as set out in Tables 1 and 2 is prepared from a reaction mixture containing XO 2 (preferably silica], Y 2 O 3 (preferably alumina) and a dicationic alkylated polymethylene diamine. The new zeolite is useful in catalytic processes, especially xylenes isomerisation.

When the system is in operation, heat from the elevated temperature process fluid is transferred to the isomerization compound and the isomerisation compound endothermically isomerizes to a higher energy state from. Thus, in a vehicle including an engine and a body, the body houses a catalytic heat exchanger having an output in fluid communication with the engine, and a pump for urging an isomerization compound into the heat exchanger and a sink controller for controlling the pump are provided.

The method is based on the application of a catalyst which comprises an inorganic oxide support containing at least one mixed oxide compound of SiO2 and Al2O3 in any proportion, and performing the isomerization at a temperature between 150 and 300o C under a pressure ranging from about atmospheric to a few atmospheres in the presence of a catalyst having been produced by reaction of the support with an aluminium alkyl compound of the type AlRyX3-y, wherein R = CH3, C2H5 or C3H7, y = 1 or 2 and X = Cl, preferably Al(C2H5)Cl2. The support may be impregnated with platinum and/or rhenium. Characteristic features of this method are that the isomerization process can be run without any promotor, and that isomerization of xylene under moderate conditions yields a high degree of conversion and high selectivity. It has been shown by means of examples that the process can be run within the temperature range 150 to 300o C and under a pressure of about atmospheric to a few atmospheres, with from 0 to 30% ethylbenzene in the feed stock and with or without dilution of the feed with toluene. The method is particularly well applicable to converting meta-xylene to ortho- and para-xylene. Also examples of production of the catalyst have been given.
