Removing impurities from a heptane stream by contacting the heptane stream with an acidic catalyst, wherein the contacting reduces a concentration of one or more close boiling impurities, one or more olefins, or both. The impurities are isomerized via contact with the acidic catalyst into species that possess lower octane levels or that do not possess boiling points as near to the boiling point of n-heptane, which promotes separation of the impurities via distillation. Close boiling impurities may include such compounds as cis-1,2-dimethylcyclopentane and methylcyclohexane or may be compounds having boiling points at a standard pressure of 760 Torr in the range of about 96.5 to about 100.5 degrees Celsius including such compounds as cis-1,2-dimethylcyclopentane and methylcyclohexane. The concentration of cis-1,2-dimethylcyclopentane and methylcyclohexane may be reduced by at least about 25 and 10 percent by weight, respectively. The concentration of olefins, as measured by the Bromine Index, may be reduced by at least about 25 percent by weight.

The present invention relates to a method for removal and recovery of an organic amine from a hydrocarbon stream containing the amine, comprising the steps of: i) mixing the hydrocarbon stream containing the amine with an aqueous inorganic acid in a volumetric ratio of hydrocarbon stream:aqueous inorganic acid of >1:1-5:1, preferably 1.5:1-4:1, more preferably 3:1, ii) phase separating of hydrocarbon and aqueous phase; iii) removing the hydrocarbon phase and optionally further purifying thereof, iv) optionally recycling at least a part of the hydrocarbon phase obtained in step (iii) into mixing step (i), v) mixing the aqueous phase obtained in step (iii) with an aqueous alkaline solution, vi) phase separating of an aqueous phase and an organic phase formed, vii) removing the organic phase obtained in step (vi) and optionally further purifying thereof.

Es wird ein Verfahren sowie eine Vorrichtung zum Auswaschen von Verunreinigen wie Phosphorwasserstoff, Ammoniak, Schwefelwasserstoff und/oder Arsenwasserstoff aus Rohgasen mittels Schwefelsäure in zumindest einer Waschsäule beschrieben. Um die Nachteile bekannter Verfahren, wie z.B. Bildung von Nebenprodukten, die zu Verlegungen und hohem apparativen Aufwand führen, zu überwinden, wird vorgeschlagen, daß in einer (n-2)ten Waschstufe, wobei n größer/gleich 3 ist, verdünnte Schwefelsäure und in einer (n-1)ten Waschstufe konzentrierte Schwefelsäure im Kreislauf geführt werden sowie in einer n-ten Waschstufe frische konzentrierte Schwefelsäure am Kopf der Waschsäule aufgegeben wird. Eine besonders wirtschaftliche Lösung stellt dabei das dreistufige Verfahren dar.
