Eine Anlage zur Behandlung von Dieselöl umfasst einen Vorratsbehälter (4) für das Dieselöl und einen Vorratsbehälter (6) für eine oder mehrere Zugabe-Komponente(n), ausgewählt aus Ozon, Wasserstoffperoxid, Methangas, Biogas und Erdgas, der mit einem Kavitationsreaktor (8) verbunden sind, in dem eine Emulsionsbildung und Oxidation der in dem Dieselöl enthaltenen Schwefelverbindungen zu Sulfonen stattfindet. Der Kavitationsreaktor (8) ist mit einer Trenneinrichtung (10) verbunden, in der eine Abtrennung von wässrigen Bestandteilen und von Dieselbestandteilen in dem von dem Kavitationsreaktor (8) abgegebenen Produkt stattfindet. Die Trenneinrichtung (10) ist mit einem Reaktor (12) verbunden ist, in dem die in dem Kavitationsreaktor (8) erzeugten Sulfone durch Adsorption oder Extraktion entfernt werden. Der Reaktor (12) ist mit einem Vorratsbehälter (14) für das entschwefelte Dieselöl verbunden.

Deep desulfurization of hydrocarbon feeds containing undesired organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds to produce a hydrocarbon product having low levels of sulfur-containing and nitrogen-containing compounds, is achieved by first subjecting the entire feed to an extraction zone to separate an aromatic-rich fraction containing a substantial amount of the refractory organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds and an aromatic-lean fraction containing a substantial amount of the labile organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds. The aromatic-lean fraction is contacted with a hydrotreating catalyst in a hydrotreating reaction zone operating under mild conditions to convert the labile organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds. The aromatic-rich fraction is oxidized to convert the refractory organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds to oxidized organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds. These oxidized organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds are subsequently removed, producing a stream containing reduced levels of organosulfur and organonitrogen compounds.

Catalysts for oxidative sulfur removal and methods of making and using thereof are described herein. The catalysts contain one or more reactive metal salts dispersed on one or more substrates. Suitable reactive metal salts include those salts containing multivariable metals having variable valence or oxidation states and having catalytic activity with sulfur compounds present in gaseous fuel streams. In some embodiments, the catalyst contains one or more compounds that function as an oxygen sponge under the reaction conditions for oxidative sulfur removal. The catalysts can be used to oxidatively remove sulfur-containing compounds from fuel streams, particularly gaseous fuel streams having high sulfur content. Due to the reduced catalyst cost, anticipated long catalyst life and reduced adsorbent consumption, the catalysts described herein are expected to provide a 20-60% reduction in annual desulfurization cost for biogas with sulfur contents ranges from 1000-5000 ppmv compared with the best adsorbent approach.
